Project
Within the reality of a complex and pluralistic European society, the role of education is fundamental for social cohesion and inclusion within the framework of the common values of the European Union. The data on early school leaving of girls and boys of migrant origin or descent in the three intervention countries (Spain, Italy and Greece) are very high numbers, which has been aggravated by the impact of school closure to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and other socioeconomic repercussions that affect more the most vulnerable groups such as girls and boys of migrant origin or descent. This Project aims to respond to this reality and promote educational inclusion with an intersectional approach of girls and boys of migrant origin or descent; promoting the leading role of schools and providing them with information on the existing resources and devices in the local context to promote the inclusion of these groups of students; offering teachers self-directed training that promotes this educational inclusion, and inspiring resources to promote the educational continuity of students, helping to prevent early school leaving.
The Project hopes to have an impact on different target groups: both the educational community in general, as well as families, local social sector, and educational authorities.
The general objective of this Project is to respond to the differentiated needs of students (both girls and boys) of migrant origin or descent, in order to facilitate their school success and social inclusion. There are barriers that can be decisive for these groups of students, so it is necessary to strengthen the role of schools in promoting educational inclusion with an intersectional approach of these students.
The specific objective of this Project is to contribute to combating the typical trends of early school leaving of students of migrant origin or descent, trends that are more likely to be met when inequality variables intersect each other and affect students in a specific and differential way, such as gender, socioeconomic status, belonging to minority groups, sexual diversity, functional diversity, among others.
Intersectionality is an analytical tool that recognizes that systemic inequalities are configured when different social factors such as gender, ethnicity and social class, overlap. Thus, for example, applying the intersectional approach implies not only analyzing the forms of inequality suffered by women, but also racialized people, people with disabilities, minority groups… The intersectional approach is committed to broadening the vision and carrying out more complete analyses, adjusted to the reality of the most vulnerable social groups, in order to propose adjusted and relevant responses. This Project aims to apply the intersectional approach in all its activities, processes and materials.
